First launch
maxdown isn't code-signed yet, so macOS and Windows flag it the first time you open it. It isn't a warning about maxdown. The same alert shows up for any app whose developer hasn't paid for the platform's signing certificate (Apple charges $99 a year; Windows signing is a paid service too). Here's the absurd part: signing changes nothing about the app. It's exactly the same app whether it's signed or not; paying just buys a stamp that silences the warning. It's a toll for shipping software, not a verdict on maxdown. One time, then never again:
Right-click maxdown and choose Open, then confirm. On recent macOS, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
On the SmartScreen prompt, click More info, then Run anyway.
